And its hotels are 18th most-expensive in the world on average

This week we chatted to the travel experts at Cheapflights.co.uk, who have analysed travel data from two of its sister travel brands. In a list of the world’s 143 most-searched capital cities to visit, our very own London has come out top. Cheapflights also worked out the average hotel prices of these most-searched capital cities, of which London came 18th, costing approximately £162 a night in which to stay. Next down the list of popularity came Paris, which on average costs £148 a night, followed by Amsterdam at £168 per night. Although at 64th down the list of popularity, perhaps unsurprisingly, the sovereign city-state of Monaco topped out as having the most-expensive average hotel room rate, at £369 per night. Here are the world’s Top 10 most-searched capital cities:
Ranking Popular capitals Average hotel price per night
1 London £162
2 Paris £148
3 Amsterdam £168
4 Rome £93
5 Berlin £100
6 Madrid £103
7 Prague £100
8 Tokyo £127
9 Copenhagen £173
10 Bangkok £84
UK spokesperson at Cheapflights, Lasse Skole Hansen, states “It isn’t hard to see why London was most-searched for travellers. Although by far not the cheapest city break, its landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and the Tower of London, have drawn tourists for decades – currently the capital attracts around 30 million tourists annually. For the best flights and hotel rates, we would advise avoiding school holidays and once travel dates are set, regularly checking Cheapflights.co.uk for the best deals, as prices do fluctuate.”
