We decided to catch up with Vaxxo for an exclusive interview on The National Post:

What inspired you to get into music?
Since I was a little boy, music has been a part of my life. I grew up in a small village in Portugal that for whatever reason was full of musicians, there was no way to escape it. The fact that most of my friends were musicians and I had a strong passion for music also helped. So when I had the opportunity to join my first band, I naturally said yes and never looked back. And as they say, the rest is history.

How would you describe your music?

From the beginning, I tried to bring the sounds of the 80’s and 90’s into my rock world. A lot of influence from that time with a touch of modern rock. In relation to the message, it will always be a message of change, love and respect for others. It could be said that it is a smooth rock style.

What would you say is your recording and songwriting style?

I’m a big fan of writing on the spot. If the idea comes to mind, I better have a pen handy to put things down on paper. I usually write about situations that I’ve been through in my life, as well as change and love.
I think it makes rock music more attractive and more sincere. It connects fans to your music and to you as an artist.

Where would you like to see your music career in 5 years time?
I don’t like to make assumptions or create goals in my career. I prefer to live in the present and focus on making music that my fans will be connected to in the same way that they are right now, and if that continues to happen in 5 years… perfect!
