Introducing Voodoo Bloo, a powerful indie-rock driven project  led by Rory McDonald. Their sound is influenced by harder hitting acts such as Marilyn Manson and System of a Down, as well as some singer-songwriter artists such as Car Seat Headrest and Neutral Milk Hotel.  The fantastic mix of influences brings a great blend of emotional and conceptual songwriting with a very catchy and frequently danceable distorted mess.

The new single MMA and video show how creative Voodoo Bloo is making sure he connects with his fans on all levels. The video although is quite minimalist but hard hitting with a strong message wrapped around to fit with the overall theme.  From being pelted with bottle caps, corks, and other miscellaneous items you might find on a night out to  having to put up with the nuisances you meet on a daily basis. MMA grabs your attention and sticks in the mind on repeat which is actually what a good song is supposed to do. We decided to catch up with Voodoo Bloo for an interview for Camden Monthly

What inspired you to get into music?
Well, I guess my first memory of life was watching the music video for “Californication” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, followed by “American Idiot” by Green day, so I guess you could say music has always been a massive part of my life. My parents were also musicians too, so I guess it’s in the family.

How would you describe your music?
Angry, yet compassionate, though most of our material is pretty varied, I can’t put it into one genre, nor do I want to.

What would you say is your recording and song writing style?
I’ve always just written songs by myself, in my room, just me and my guitar. I guess technically all the songs I do could be done acoustically since that’s the case, but I think most of them need the power of a full band.

Where would you like to see your music career in 5 years time?
Existent. The joy of doing music has to be there, that’s all that counts for me.
