Introducing Lilly Thompson,  an Australian singer-songwriter, who has felt a strong connection to music since before she could remember. From using her songwriting as an emotional outlet from a young age, Lilly hopes her songs can connect with those on the edge of adulthood looking into the bigger world, like her.  Lily Thompson has gone from making her way through the storm and then feeling just fine and now there is what seems like the final phase which is making sure she doesn’t loose focus. Off course, if you are wondering what i am talking about, then it will be easy to find out if you were an LT fan. For those new to the Aussie singer, it will be useful to know that she  released her first single ‘Storm’ in 2018, and her second, ‘Fine’ just this March. Her latest release, ‘Losing Focus’ came out on the 2nd of July, and she’s so excited to keep writing and sharing her songs with the world. ‘Loosing Focus’ really encapsulates the journey so far and with an amazing title coupled with thought provoking content. The song is a fantastic showcase of Lily’s wonderful talent. Her songwriting and vocals are perfect whilst the production really takes the entire project to a brand new level. They say, the best is yet to come which is why we caught up with the Aussie future star while we could for an exclusive interview on the National Post.

What inspired you to get into music?
I’ve always had music running through my blood, from growing up with musical parents, to beginning piano when I was 3. I wrote my first song when I was 5, and ever since then songwriting has been somewhat of an outlet for me. I write my songs from my heart, and I hope that people can find their own connections to my words and music when they hear it too! Music lets me be completely myself – it’s a special space for me where I can get everything off my chest and just sing!

How would you describe your music?
I would say my music is a mix of alternative and pop, with lyrics that always have a meaning!

What would you say is your recording and song writing style?
My songwriting style changes depending on the song. I wrote my first release, ‘Storm’ in about 15 minutes – it’s about something I felt passionate about at the time, and it just kind of flowed out! But my most recent release, ‘Losing Focus’, took me about a month to write, because the lyrics have a really special message for someone close to me, and I wanted it to be perfect. I record most of my songs from my apartment, because I’m a uni student and can’t get into a proper studio! But the process of recording from home and making my own backing has allowed me to understand way more about the music and how I hear it.

Where would you like to see your music career in 5 years time?
In 5 years time, I’d absolutely love to be writing songs for people from all across the world to jam out to and relate to! I’d love to release an EP soon as well, and hopefully enough people will want to hear my music that I can get out and sing to bigger crowds as well!

Where can music fans listen your music?
You can hear my music on all streaming services, including Spotify, iTunes, and SoundCloud! But check out my artist profile on Spotify… I have some of my favourite playlists of my favourite artists up there too 🙂
